Ethical Strength&Moral Courage

The Castle Connection

An important characteristic of The Code curriculum is our encouragement of parental involvement in the character-building process. Our objective is to build a team of educators, students and their families, all working together toward character growth. The following elements of The Castle Connection help strengthen home relationships and create a consistent developmental environment:

Parent Letters (available in English and Spanish)

With the introduction of each character trait, you will find a letter to parents that can be reproduced and sent home with students in order to notify them of the new trait to be studied; make them aware of an upcoming Castle Connection Activity that involves their participation; and offer suggestions as to how they can support the character education efforts happening on campus.

Student Self-Assessments (grade 3 and up)

With the introduction of each character trait, you will find a reproducible self-assessment worksheet that students should take home and complete with the help of their parent or guardian. The purpose of the self-assessment is to give the student an opportunity to identify personal strengths and weaknesses with regard to the character trait.

Castle Connection Activity

With the introduction of each character trait, you will find a "home activity" worksheet that can be reproduced and sent home with students. This activity gives families an opportunity to complete an easy, fun project together that will spur dialogue about important issues relating to the character trait being studied, and how they may be important to the family.
